Engaged Learning Programs

Rider University offers a number of engaged service-learning programs open to all students. These programs are led are facilitated by Bonner Community Scholars. After participating in the programs as freshmen, Bonners are able to connect with a program that matches their interests and passions as an opportunity to develop leadership skills.

End Hunger Advocates

The End Hunger Advocates (EHA) program engages students in investigating the impact food insecurity has on their community as they learn what can be done to raise awareness of the problem and how they can help to create positive change. Students complete online learning modules, participate in discussion and hands on activities with peers, and engage in meaningful service in their local community

Friendly Visitor Program

The Friendly Visitor Program provides companionship and a meaningful friendship to a homebound senior in the local community. Through weekly discussions with their FVP Team, students learn about the impact of aging on a person’s mind and body while developing strong communication skills. Students meet one hour per week with their FVP Team and spend one hour per week in interesting conversation with their senior.

Rider Votes Team

Rider Votes allows students to explore their role as a citizen in our Democracy. Participants examine the idea of Democracy and various aspects of the voting process including the history of voter rights and suppression, gerrymandering, how to decide who to vote for, and when to vote. Students will also complete 10 hours of service related to voting including voter registration and education.

Rider B.E.S.T.

Rider B.E.S.T. (Bronc Environmental Social Justice Team) discover the laws, regulations, and policies that contribute to environmental racism in the local community, nationally, and around the world. Opportunities to raise awareness and address environmental issues through service are provided while enhancing student’s “think globally, act locally” mindset.

Medical Reserve Corps

This program is for students with an interest in health and emergency preparedness issues. RMRC volunteers supplement existing emergency and public health resources to prepare for and respond to emergencies at a local level. RMRC members receive online training and certifications for topics such as Personal Safety in Management, and Incident Comand Systems. Opportunities to put newly acquired knowledge into action through service prepares students to be effective Medical Reserve Corps volunteers at Rider and in local communities.
